Looking to get out of the house? Wondering where to go and what to do? Want something different each week? “Mama & Tots… ready, set, go!” is a 6-week” on the go” program for moms and their tots aged 1-3 years. Moms and tots meet on Thursday mornings at various times and locations in and around Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and Edmonton.

Check out the program… Mama & Tots Schedule! Moms and tots will enjoy gymnastics, dancing, music, story time, nature, swimming, and lots of PLAY! We visit Aerials Gymnastics Club and the Public Library in Spruce Grove, Dance Soul in Stony Plain, Gymboree Play & Music and the John Janzen Nature Center in Edmonton, and our finale is at the TLC pool!

Although the program is geared towards ages 1-3, ANYONE aged 0-4 is welcome!

$75 per mom and (1) tot, $70 for previous program participants or Perks cardholders, and $60 for any additional children (1-4). Additional children under 1 are no charge!

A chance to meet and mingle with some other mamas, get out of the house for the morning and learn something new!

This event is on post-natal fitness and core strength. Melanie Osmack from Fit 4 Two and Kim Vopni from Fitness Doula will speak about how your body changes post-pregnancy and how you can safely regain your core strength and get your body back!

Melanie will cover how to ease into fitness (and fit it in!) immediately post-baby and into toddlerhood. Kim will discuss diastasis recti, pelvic floor wellness, and how to safely regain your core strength. Both speakers are mamas themselves and wonderful experts in post-baby fitness.

PLUS! We’ll have prizes from Fit 4 Two and free class passes for you to try some different fitness options around the city.

Mamas will be treated to refreshments and a light breakfast from the Cactus Club kitchen. The restaurant is closed in the mornings, but they’re opening their doors just for us!

Speaker Bios:

Melanie Osmack is the founder of Fit 4 Two® Pre and Postnatal Fitness Inc.  She has been teaching fitness classes for new mom-to-be and new moms in Vancouver since 2003.  Melanie is a BCRPA registered personal trainer and group fitness/aqua fitness/yoga instructor.  In order to help other women launch successful fitness businesses, she franchised Fit 4 Two in 2006. That means you can find Fit 4 Two classes at most community centres in the lower mainland.  www.fit4two.ca

Kim Vopni is a wife and mother of 2 boys. She holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario and a Post Graduate Diploma in Health and Fitness from Simon Fraser University. She began her fitness career in 1996 leading classes and clients in both one on one and group sessions. In 2004 after the birth of her first son, her company EPI-NO Canada was also born and has evolved into a women’s wellness company with a special emphasis on prenatal and postpartum moms. Kim is a Certified Personal Trainer and a Certified Pre/Post Natal Fitness Consultant. She is also a trained postpartum doula which has many clients now referring to her as The Fitness Doula. www.fitnessdoula.com

This event is all about protecting our families and living well and smart. Budgeting for maternity leave (and beyond), saving for our children’s futures, living life within a budget, and preparing our wills and guardianship for protection of ours and our children’s futures will all be covered by three different experts at this event.

Lori from Frugal Edmonton Mama joins us to talk about living well within a budget. She has been featured in local news and is well-known for extreme couponing. Lori posts about deals, Canadian coupons, extreme couponing and the deals that can be found out and about in Edmonton and St. Albert. Using coupons, promotions and sales, she can teach you to find that inner-frugal mama (or dad)! She will be giving us a few tips and pointers on how we can live life on a budget.

We have an expert in wills and guardianship, a lawyer who will teach us about the importance of having a Will and Power of Attorney in place – especially when you have children. She will be educating us on the what these documents entail and what information is required (along with expected costs).

Rick MacDonald, an Investment & Retirement Planner with Royal Bank in St. Albert will share his extensive education and experience; providing us with some insight into saving for children, information on RESPs (for your child’s future education) and maybe even a few budget strategies for moms.

This 90 minute workshop is led by an instructor from First Aid Hero.

Our instructor will cover infant (0-12mths) and child CPR, choking and prevention. First Aid Hero is a Red Cross certified partner.

In December 2011, we purchased Meet Up Mamas in Spruce Grove, AB, an established and very locally-focused moms group offering post-natal and toddler programs and other mom-focused events.  We wanted to partner with the founder, Dr. Josline Stefanick specifically since her programs for moms and toddlers were so successful and we believed in what she was offering. We are happy to have adapted her programs into Modern Mama’s line-up of documented and proven offerings for you as a licensee.

A Modern Mama license includes operational guidelines for nearly twenty different events and programs, details to help you gauge your community needs, partner with other businesses, offer the best events and programs for moms in your community, down to every detail.  Consulting, a launch plan and coaching included in your individual program plan, help you to become successful in your own business with an established and reputable brand and system.

What are we looking for?  The perfect fit!  You are driven, entrepreneurial, connected in your community, looking to support moms and enjoy meeting and talking with other moms and business owners.

Do you need an occasional babysitter?  You’ve come to the right place!

For four years we have been asked how we find nannies for Modern Mama events, so here you are!  It’s an evening of babysitter-speed-dating!  Come out to Kerrisdale to meet a few great babysitters, all of which:

- are experienced with child care and some hold safety certifications
- are able to provide their own transportation (public transit included)
- are willing to travel within the West side of Vancouver
- are over 17 years of age
- range from high school students to university students, child care workers or full-time nannies
- want occasional sitting (particularly evening/weekend) for families in Vancouver West

What’s included:

- An information sheet for each Babysitter in attendance
- ‘How to Hire a Babysitter’ article
- An at-home ‘for the sitter’ reference sheet
- Wine & Sweet treats and a fun social night out with other moms
- The ability to bring your child (we understand that you’re trying to find a babysitter!) Note however, that nanny service is not available at this event.
- face to face casual interviews with each sitter.
- there are typically between 5-10 babysitters in attendance.

What is not included: (Please read!)

- No pre-screening or reference checks
- Modern Mama assumes NO liability for hiring and working with any Babysitter met at the event
- No set wages were agreed upon, it is up to you and your babysitter to agree on an hourly rate.  It was suggested to these women that the average rate for this area, based on experience, number of children and number of hours (and night vs. day) is $9-$15 per hour.
- Modern Mama is not an agency, we do not provide ongoing referrals to babysitters.
